What is this Canton Comedy Series all about?

Many people, scholars, entertainers, presidents, and even Oprah, have asked this question over and over, trying to get to the root of the Canton Comedy Series.  Who are we?  What makes us tick? Why does the national “left wing” media have such a love affair with us?

Well, we would simply tell those people to be careful with this line of questioning.  We know people, who know people, if you know what we mean.  We’ve watched most of the episodes of Sopranos and can make nosy people, less nosy, and less visible for that matter.

OK, the serious response is that The Canton Comedy Series was founded by Rob Snow and Mike Harrer.  Two friends from highschool who had a dream…a dream of bringing the funny to Canton.

The Canton Comedy Series brings some of the best talent from the surrounding area to Canton for a comedy experience you will not see at any typical comedy clubs.  Most shows have 4 to 5 top tier performers, and usually 2 headliners.  The goal is to continue to bring in the best of Ohio, and mix in some national headliners throughout the year.

What is our Mission Statement?

This would assume we had an actual business plan, and aren’t just figuring this whole thing out as we go.  If we had to be nailed down to one, it would be something like…

The Canton Comedy Series was created to bring great comedic talent to unique Canton venues and offer a new and exciting entertainment choice for the fine folks of Stark County.

Or…

To make people laugh!

Note: The use of italics in the above statement proves that our mission statement is very serious.

Who in the heck is Rob Snow?

Great question, and one that Rob has been asking himself for a long time.  Rob grew up in Canton, and made his way through the Canton City school system, graduating from Canton McKinley in 1991.  Rob has always enjoyed trying to bring laughter to any situation.  After earning the coveted “class clown” award his freshmen year at Crenshaw Junior High, Rob realized he had a knack for making his friends laugh, and his teachers frustrated.  After college, Rob went to Chicago, and began his first job – booking comics for colleges.  This introduced Rob to the business side of comedy, but he wasn’t satisfied just booking the comics.  A short time later, he enrolled in the famed Second City Theatre, where he began studying improvisation.  This led him to stand up comedy, and starring in some very exciting commercials(Captain D’s Seafood?).  For three years, Rob grew his stand up comedy resume by performing at clubs and colleges throughout the Midwest.  In 2000, Rob realized he needed some actual money, and wanted to get on with his life, so he succumbed to the real world, got married, and began a job in the exciting world of sales.  After moving back to the Cleveland area in 2008, Rob found too much material in Cleveland not to let it out.  He quickly found his footing at various clubs in Ohio, and tries to work on material while traveling around the country for his day job.  After reuniting with Mike Harrer, the two decided to start bringing comedy to Canton and promoting some great local venues at the same time.  Rob enjoys long walks, soft cheeses, creating edible sandwiches, radiology, and some forms of mime.

What is a Mike Harrer?

Mike began his DJing career back in the 8^th grade, when he started creating mixes for all the Junior High parties.  His love for all music quickly made him the go-to guy for creating the best playlists during high school at Canton Mckinley.  Since high school, he has been DJing either professionally or as a favor to friends under the nickname, DJ Magic Mike.  Mike used his DJ connections to enter the hospitality industry in 1991 and by 1994 had become the youngest assistant GM in Damon’s history out of Florida .  His eye for marketing and promotions was noticed by Champps, and in the early 2000s, Mike moved to Denver , Colorado to handle the promotions and marketing for over 20 Champps restaurants.  On the side, Mike started a very successful DJ company that still exists in Denver today.  Mike moved back to Canton in 2007 to be closer to family, and quickly picked up and expanded his DJ Service.  He formed the company MobileJox and has become the preeminent DJ in the Canton/Akron area today.  Mike’s expertise of promotions, marketing, and audio/visual technology, has enabled the Canton Comedy Series to perform at any venue of any size, using Mike’s own state-of-the-art audio/visual equipment.

Mike enjoys Canton, McKinley, and Football in that order.  Also, lilacs.
